Eligibility & Amateurism

What volleyball families should know about eligibility and amateurism before college. Rules checked Oct 25, 2026. Rules change, so confirm details on the linked sources and with each school's compliance office. This is general guidance, not legal or eligibility advice.

Register early

  • D1 and D2 recruits need an NCAA Eligibility Center Certification Account before an official visit or signing; D3 recruits can use a free Profile Page.
  • NAIA recruits register with the NAIA Eligibility Center.
  • Core courses and GPA rules are on GPA & academics.

Amateurism

  • Every D1 and D2 recruit goes through the NCAA Eligibility Center's amateurism certification. Answer its questions honestly and keep records of any team, contract, prize money or expense reimbursement.
  • Beach and grass tournaments sometimes pay prize money. Before accepting any prize money or pay to play or coach, ask the Eligibility Center and the college's compliance office what applies to you. Since April 2026, D1 rules on prospects and agents have changed.
  • International players have extra steps; see the NCAA's international student page.

We don't guess here
