Getting eligible at a junior college

• NJCAA athletes need a high school diploma, a state-approved equivalency or a home-school diploma.
• Full time means 12 or more credits. Credit and GPA progress rules apply each term after the first, so check the current NJCAA handbook.
• The NJCAA has no recruiting calendar. A school-paid visit requires a finished junior year of high school.

Moving on to an NCAA Division I school (2-4 transfer)

• If you were an NCAA qualifier out of high school: you can practice, get athletic aid and compete right away if you completed at least one full-time term (summer doesn't count), averaged 12 transferable credits per full-time term, and earned at least a 2.5 GPA in those credits.
• If you were not a qualifier: you generally need to graduate from the two-year school, complete three full-time semesters (or four quarters), earn 48 semester (72 quarter) transferable credits including set English, math and science hours, and have at least a 2.5 GPA.
• Baseball players who transfer in the middle of the year can't compete until the fall term.
• The compliance office at the four-year school makes the final call.

Know this about the eligibility clock

Under the new D1 age-based model, your five-year clock starts when you first enroll full time at any college, including a two-year college. It applies to students first enrolling in fall 2027 or later. See Roster Limits & New Rules.

NJCAA scholarship limits and what they cover depend on the division. Ask each junior college directly and confirm with the NJCAA. We couldn't verify the current numbers on NJCAA.org, so we don't list them.
