Men's and women's wrestling are recruited on different dates
Men's and women's college wrestling now have different D1 recruiting dates. D1 Proposal 2026-12 (adopted final Apr. 15, 2026) moved men's wrestling recruiting later for wrestlers who first enroll full time on or after Aug. 1, 2028: D1 men's coaches can't call, text, email or DM you before April 1 of junior year. Women's wrestling follows the general D1 rules (June 15 after sophomore year). Women's wrestling has its own NCAA championship, but only 7 D1 programs in our directory; most women's teams are D2, D3, NAIA or JUCO. Every page on this site says which one it means.
Your weight class matters
College weight classes are different from high school weights, and NCAA weight certification uses a hydration test and body-fat assessment. Think about where you'll fit after a year or two of college training. See Weight classes & weight management.
High school, club and college camps
College wrestling runs November to March, the same months as high school. Coaches see wrestlers at big high school tournaments, off-season national events, college camps and on film. See High school, club and college camps.
