Campus visits
Official & Unofficial Visits
Official and unofficial college visit rules for baseball recruits. Rules checked Oct 18, 2026. Rules change, so confirm details on the linked sources and with each school's compliance office. This is general guidance, not legal or eligibility advice.
Official vs. unofficial
- Official visit: paid for by the college.
- Unofficial visit: paid for by your family. You can take as many as you want, but in D1 and D2 they must come after the first permissible date for your sport.
Before a D1 or D2 official visit
- Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
- Be on the school's institutional request list.
- Send the school a copy of your high school transcript.
How many?
- You can take official visits to as many different NCAA schools as you want after the first permissible date, but each school can give you only one official visit. In D1 and D2, a second may be allowed if the head coach changes.
- In 2025, Division I removed the cap on how many official visits a baseball program can host. That cap used to be 25 a year, with a blanket waiver allowing 40.
What a D1 school can pay for on an official visit
- Transportation for you and up to two family members.
- Lodging, and up to three meals a day for you and up to four family members.
- Up to $60 per person in reasonable entertainment for you and up to four family members, including five tickets to a home sports event.
- D2 and D3 limits are different. See the NCAA visits sheet below.

Questions to ask on a visit
- Where do I fit on your roster, and how many players at my position are you bringing in?
- Did your school opt into the House settlement, and what does aid look like for my class?
- How do freshmen earn playing time?
- Can I talk with current players without coaches present?
- Can I study my intended major and play?
