Emailing college lacrosse coaches
The emails that get opened are short and specific: grad year, position, dominant hand, club team, high school, a clickable highlight link and where a coach can watch you next.
Who to email
- Email the head coach and the assistant who handles recruiting (many staff pages say who that is). Use the "Coaching staff" link in the directory, and make sure you open the men's or women's page you mean.
- Fill out each program's recruiting questionnaire too, if it has one.
When to email
- You can email coaches at any grade. D1 coaches can read your emails and watch your film before they're allowed to reply.
- D1 men's and women's lacrosse coaches can reply starting Sept. 1 of junior year. D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO coaches can reply anytime.
- Send a short update before every summer and fall event.
Subject line formula
Grad year, position, hand, club team, high school and state, and where you'll be playing next.
Subject: [Grad Year] Attack | [Hand] | [Club Team] | [High School], [ST] | Highlights Subject: [Grad Year] Goalie | [Club Team] | Playing at [Event], Field [#], [Date]
Sample coach email
Keep the body under about 150 words. Put your highlight link near the top. Never attach video.

Send it from the player's own email address, one school per email. College lacrosse coaches often call the club or high school coach, so make sure your coaches know you're reaching out.
Follow-ups
- Before every event: a two-line email with your field, first game time and jersey number.
- After a camp or event: a short thank-you within a few days, with one new clip.
- Every few weeks: new film, a new schedule or new grades. Something real each time.
- No reply after two or three tries? Keep the school on your list and focus on programs that answer.
