Where coaches see you
High School, Club & College Camps
How the high school season, club events and college camps work for lacrosse recruits. Rules checked Oct 26, 2026. Rules change, so confirm details on the linked sources and with each school's compliance office. This is general guidance, not legal or eligibility advice.
High school and club
- College lacrosse is played in the spring, the same season as high school lacrosse, so college coaches do much of their evaluating at summer and fall club events.
- Club lacrosse can be expensive. Ask each club which events it attends, what it costs and how it helps players contact college coaches.
- Check your state association's rules on playing club lacrosse during the high school season; find yours in the NFHS State Association Directory.
College camps
- Camps let coaches see you up close. Go to camps at schools that are realistic for you, and email the coach before you go.
- At a D1 school's own camp, coaches can coach you but can't have recruiting conversations with you before Sept. 1 of junior year (Bylaw 13.12.1.5.2).
- Camps can't be held during dead periods. Before you pay, ask which college coaches will actually be there.
Calendars matter
Men's D1 coaches have contact periods with no evaluations in the fall, so fall film and emails carry more weight. Women's D1 coaches do most summer evaluating June 11 - July 31. See the timeline.
