Club Play & Showcases
How and where college soccer coaches see recruits. Rules checked Oct 22, 2026. Rules change, so confirm details on the linked sources and with each school's compliance office. This is general guidance, not legal or eligibility advice.
Why club matters
College soccer seasons run in the fall, the same time as many high school seasons, so college coaches often can't watch high school games. Most evaluation happens at club games, showcase tournaments and college ID camps, much of it in the winter, spring and summer.
Showcase events
- Showcases put many teams in one place so college coaches can see many players in a weekend.
- Ask your club which colleges have confirmed attendance, and email those coaches 1-2 weeks before with your field, kickoff time and jersey number.
- Remember the D1 dead periods: coaches can't evaluate in person during them (see the timeline).
Choosing a club level
There are several national and regional club platforms. We don't rank them. The right level is one where you play real minutes against good opponents, and where the club helps with college exposure. Ask a club how many of its players went on to play college soccer, at what levels, and how its staff communicates with college coaches.
High school soccer still counts
High school soccer is great for development, leadership and film. Some states play in the fall and some in the spring, so it may or may not overlap with college seasons. Check your state association's rules on playing club and high school soccer at the same time; find yours in the NFHS State Association Directory.
