Film, Results & What Coaches Ask For
How to build wrestling film and a results list coaches will actually use. Rules checked Oct 27, 2026. Rules change, so confirm details on the linked sources and with each school's compliance office. This is general guidance, not legal or eligibility advice.
Results first
- Wrestling coaches look at results first and film second: who you beat, where you placed, and how you wrestle in the hardest matches.
- Keep a dated list of your record and state and national placements, with links where they're posted.
- We don't publish "what D1 wants" charts; they're rarely sourced. Compare yourself to the current rosters and results at schools on your list.
Full matches
- Collect 3-5 full matches against your best opponents. Coaches who like your results will ask for them.
- Post on YouTube (unlisted is fine) or Hudl, and put the link near the top of your email. Never attach video.
Highlight video
- Two to four minutes, best clips first.
- Put your name, grad year and weight on the first frame, and make it clear which wrestler you are.
- Update it after each season and big event, and send the new link to coaches.
