Where coaches see you

High School, Club & College Camps

How the high school season, club events and college camps work for wrestling recruits. Rules checked Oct 27, 2026. Rules change, so confirm details on the linked sources and with each school's compliance office. This is general guidance, not legal or eligibility advice.

High school wrestling

  • College wrestling runs November to March, the same months as high school. Your state tournament placement is the first thing many coaches check.
  • Girls' wrestling is now its own state championship in many states; check yours in the NFHS State Association Directory.
  • Check your state association's rules on club events during the high school season.

College camps

  • Camps let coaches see you up close. Go to camps at schools that are realistic for you, and email the coach before you go.
  • D1 men's coaches can't have recruiting conversations with you at their own camp before June 15 after junior year (Bylaw 13.12.1.5.6, wrestlers enrolling Aug. 1, 2028 or later).
  • No camps during dead periods. Before you pay, ask which college coaches will actually be there.

Using events

  • Ask your coaches which colleges usually attend.
  • Email coaches 1-2 weeks before with the event, your weight and the dates.
  • Remember the D1 dead periods: Nov. 9-12 and July 26 - Aug. 1.

Club wrestling in college (not varsity)

  • The NCWA (National Collegiate Wrestling Association) runs non-varsity college wrestling with its own national championships.
  • Club teams don't give NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA athletic scholarships. A real option if you want to keep wrestling at a school you love. Our directory lists varsity programs only.
