Film & Hudl Highlights

How to make football film work for you in recruiting. Rules checked Oct 20, 2026. Rules change, so confirm details on the linked sources and with each school's compliance office. This is general guidance, not legal or eligibility advice.

Why film comes first

Most football coaches decide whether to keep evaluating you from film before they ever see you in person. Your film is your résumé.

Highlight reel basics

  • Put your best 5-6 plays first. Many coaches decide in the first 30 seconds.
  • Keep it to about 3-5 minutes and use your most recent season.
  • Mark yourself with a spot shadow or arrow before the snap so coaches can find you.
  • Show plays at your position that coaches recruit for: linemen should show pass sets and run blocks, not just pancakes; DBs should show coverage, not only interceptions.
  • No music is needed. Coaches usually watch with the sound off.

Full-game film

Many coaches ask for one or two full games after a highlight catches their eye. Have them ready on Hudl so you can share a link quickly.

Where to post

  • Your high school program probably already uses Hudl. Ask your coach for access to your games.
  • Share a direct link in every email and pin it on X. Keep your Hudl profile's height, weight, grad year and GPA current.

Updating during the season

Add new clips every few weeks in the fall of junior and senior year and send coaches the update. New film is the best reason to follow up.
