Measurables & Testing
What football coaches mean by measurables and how to share yours honestly. Rules checked Oct 20, 2026. Rules change, so confirm details on the linked sources and with each school's compliance office. This is general guidance, not legal or eligibility advice.
What coaches mean by measurables
Height, weight, wingspan and hand size, plus testing like the 40-yard dash, the shuttle (5-10-5 or pro agility), the vertical and broad jumps, and strength numbers. Coaches use them alongside film, not instead of it.
Be honest, and date everything
- List height and weight with the date they were measured.
- Only list times and jumps that were measured by someone else, ideally with electronic timing at a camp or combine, and say where and when.
- Coaches re-measure at camps. Inflated numbers cost you credibility quickly.
No magic numbers
We don't publish "benchmarks" for each division or position, because there isn't an official standard and programs value different traits. What matters is how your film and measured numbers compare with players a specific school has actually recruited at your position. Look at the school's roster (listed heights and weights) and ask the coaches directly what they look for.
Get measured where it counts
- College camps are the most direct way to get measured by the coaches who are recruiting you.
- Ask your high school strength coach to test you at the same time each year so you can show real progress.
