Position-by-Position Notes

Position notes for high school football recruits. Rules checked Oct 20, 2026. Rules change, so confirm details on the linked sources and with each school's compliance office. This is general guidance, not legal or eligibility advice.

Quarterbacks

  • Coaches want to see decisions, accuracy and footwork, not just deep balls. Include full drives and third downs.
  • Many quarterbacks attend multiple camps because throwing in person matters at this position.

Running backs and receivers

  • Show vision, change of direction, catching in traffic and blocking. Receivers should include route running against press and off coverage.
  • If you also play defense or return kicks, include a short section.

Offensive and defensive linemen

  • Linemen should show pass protection and run blocking, and defensive linemen get-off, hand use and effort to the ball.
  • Height and weight (dated) and verified testing like the shuttle matter more for linemen than highlight touchdowns.

Linebackers and defensive backs

  • Show reading and reacting, tackling in space and coverage.
  • DBs: include man and zone coverage reps, not only interceptions.

Specialists

  • Kickers, punters and long snappers are recruited differently: film of kicks with distance and hang time, and specialist camps.
  • Many specialists start as preferred walk-ons, so ask coaches directly about roster and aid plans.

Athletes (ATH)

If you play several positions, list the one you think colleges will recruit you at first, then "ATH". Ask coaches where they see you.
