Where coaches see you
Meets, Clubs & College Camps
How the high school seasons, club track and college camps work for recruits. Rules checked Oct 27, 2026. Rules change, so confirm details on the linked sources and with each school's compliance office. This is general guidance, not legal or eligibility advice.
High school seasons
- Cross country runs in the fall, indoor track in the winter and outdoor track in the spring. Your state meet marks are among the first things many coaches check.
- Check your state association's rules on club meets during the high school season; find yours in the NFHS State Association Directory.
Club and summer track
- We don't rank clubs. Look for coaches who teach your events, safe training loads and a record of helping athletes reach college. Ask what the full season costs, including travel.
College camps
- Go to camps at schools that are realistic for you, and email the coach before you go.
- D1 coaches can have recruiting conversations with you at their own camp from Aug. 1 before junior year (Bylaw 13.12.1.5.1). No camps during dead periods.
- Before you pay, ask which college coaches will actually be there.
